STATUTORY DUTIES TO MAKE A REPORT

Practitioners should be aware of a number of BC laws that impose duties to report certain matters to various authorities.

Child, Family & Community Services Act – s. 14: Duty to report need for protection

Coroners Act – s. 2: Deaths that must be reported

Criminal Records Review Act – s. 17: Duty to report new convictions or outstanding charges

Gunshot and Stab Disclosure Act – s. 2: Mandatory disclosure of treatment of gunshot or stab wound

Health Professions Act – ss. 32.2 – 32.4: Duties to report a registrant
