Health Professions Review Board

The Health Professions Act created the Health Professions Review Board (HPRB) to provide independent reviews of the timeliness and outcomes of complaint investigations by the regulatory Colleges.  The HPRB may also review the outcomes of some applications for registration.

A complainant has the right to ask the HPRB to review a perceived delay in the Inquiry Committee’s investigation of the complaint as well as the eventual outcome of that investigation.

The registrant who is the subject of the complaint may apply for review of the reasons for delay in the investigation, but does not have the right to seek HPRB review of the outcome.

If a complaint proceeds to a hearing before the Discipline Committee, the HPRB may not review the outcome of that hearing.  The route for outside review at this stage is to seek legal advice regarding an appeal to the Court.

The HPRB does not have the authority to order that the CPS-BC discipline a registrant, or that the College or a registrant pay money to or compensate a complainant.

If you have a concern about the outcome of the Inquiry Committee investigation of your complaint, you can apply for a review with the HPRB within 30 days of receiving the decision letter from the College.

 

HPRB decisions are now posted and available to the public on the HPRB website.
